find out how i can help
My background is in university communications and business journalism. I have a master's degree in rhetoric and composition.

I’ve been working with communications teams at universities one way or another for most of my career. During that time, the amount of work these teams do — and the speed with which they do it — has greatly accelerated. I handle quick turnarounds. Just ask!

I rely on plain language principles — clear, direct, engaging, jargon-free — for everything I write and edit.

Here’s how I can help your team:

Writing
  • Research articles – Translating SME research into lay terms
  • Profiles – Alumni, faculty, students, etc. Length: really short to really long
  • Features – An in-depth look at programs, classes, people, campus initiatives, and the like. Multiple interviews.
  • Blogs – Sometimes ghostwritten; sometimes an article.
  • Email campaigns
  • Recruiting content for prospective students and corporate partners
  • News articles

Editing
I'm well-versed in Chicago, AP, APA, and AMA styles, as well as American, Canadian, and British English. I also like tackling multi-author reports. I provide all of the above, plus:

  • Newsletters, e-zines, alumni magazines
  • White papers, industry reports, case studies
  • Accreditation reports
  • Fiscal year/annual reports, donor reports
  • Scientific reports
  • Email campaigns, landing pages, blogs
  • Books/catalogues

What kind of editing do you need?
The goal: clear, direct, and engaging.
  • Substantive/Content Editing – Ensure that the draft effectively conveys its message to its intended audience through structure, content, language, style, and presentation.
  • Line Editing – Does content flow logically and easily at the paragraph and sentence level? Do sentences vary in length? Is the voice consistent and the language clear, concise, and free of jargon?
  • Copyediting – Check facts and sources for discrepancies, fine-tune word choice, and align with style guide.
  • Proofreading – Review content for style consistencies, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, font, typesize, spacing, and spelling.
